Science Is King

Science dictates lives: what you do, where you live, who you marry. It takes care of you, covers your bills, keeps you healthy, and all it asks in return is that you participate in a few experiments. Ridgeway has always been a control group, left mostly alone, but the Department of Science has been moving in, and everything is about to change.

Using makeup to imitate snakeskin on small areas of the face or body part is looked upon with great envy. Who doesn’t want to be the new It person? Dramatic eye makeup and bold lips are one of the main features of this trend. Metallic, and especially a combination of shimmering greens and reds are most dominating but there’s always other the occasional beauty guru trying to think outside of the box.

There’s a rumor going around that some citizens are getting their canines reshaped and ground thinner and sharper. So far it’s just a rumor – But can you imagine meeting someone with fangs in real life?

December is upon us, and with it comes our Secret Santa event! Messages have been sent out announcing who your character is lucky enough to give a gift to, spreading that Christmas cheer. How your character chooses to give their gift is completely up to the player. Maybe the giver wants to be anonymous or maybe it can be an entire thread of giving goodness. It's a chance to make new friends far and wide, and maybe discover that you have something in common you never thought you would.

Of course, there is also the beloved Winter Carnival - The entire downtown Ridgeway is decorated for the occasion, certain to get you into the holiday spirit. It's a wonderful place to find all the presents you need this year, and there's plenty of events to entertain the kids if you're bringing them with you.

Last but not least, the holiday's festivities are rounded out by an adult only event! Allow the kids to spend a night at Lipton, or get a teenager to watch over them. This is your chance to have a romantic night with the missus. Dress up in your prettiest dress or best suit, and enjoy a night of dancing in the beautifully decorated spaces with the best of Ridgeway!

A reminder that this event runs until the end of January. There's plenty of opportunity for some fresh drama, a steamy rendezvous or just an ideal way to get to know your match. The more the merrier! All characters above the age of 18 is welcome at the Snow Ball!

    Movies in December
In November, it was mentioned how snakes are ssssssslithering into fashion these days. This is in large parts due to the release of the first movie based on the popular bookseries, She Was A Teenage Medusa. The live-action film is hyped up to be the biggest movie of the year with teenagers flooding the theatres. The fashion trend is peaking - now in christmas colors of green and red - still with a metallic sheen.

Tickets to the movie, and the merchandise that can be bought are some of the hottest things to get the unruly teenager of the house. And what doesn't a doting parent do for a little bit of holiday peace?

There are other movies this December, even if the one on everybody's lips is 'She Was A Teenage Medusa', that include two Christmas films - one live-action romp about Santa's daughter and the other an animated adventure about the lives of the animals at the birth of Jesus leading up to the big day - as well as an action thriller which is reminiscent of Die Hard. The studios are aware that December is a lost month, all and all with the teen blockbuster hogging most screens and the Christmas themed films taking the rest, but an indie film about a clock maker has received some possible Oscar buzz and it was filmed right here in Ridgeway!

The Snow Ball is alive and kickin'! More and more people are joining, and we as staff can only say, the more the merrier! Due to everyone being busy in December, we have decided to extend the event to run through till the end of January. We want everyone to have a chance to throw their characters into the festivities!

Furthermore, something very exciting is happening in Ridgeway this year. Per January 1st, all partnered residents in the city are to participate in a raffle. The grand prize? A cruise for two! You and your partner, that is. There will be several winners, and whether or not your characters are one of them will be clear within the first week of this month.

Those unfortunate enough to not win a cruise for two will instead be called in for their six month medical examination. They'll have detailed blood work and a physical done, as well as a brief psychological evaluation. During the visit they will learn from the doctor that they're deficient in a certain vitamin, and go home with a prescription.

But are they really vitamins or are they something else? Details will be provided to all who are apart of Something Blue's very first experiment.

Movies in January
In January, She was a teenage Medusa is still making it's victory rounds. Already being called one of the greatest cinematographic masterpieces in the last decade, it is expected to bring in a steady stream of awards through the year. The start of the new year is also welcoming two animated features. One is called Paw-Power and is essentially Power Rangers reimagined as kittens, the other is a more original piece of work named Going Mutts!, featuring an adorable little cocker spaniel as the main character who sets out to finally catch his own tail.

The adults can enjoy a romantic comedy entitled All in due time, which is a long movie full of propaganda to make Partnerships seem like the greatest idea. It's about the young lady Petricia and her attempts at dating, high lighting how the dating process can help with picking the right husband for everyone.

The last big movie of January is a horror film, a rather standard one really. Titled Don't Blink it largely plays on the well-knowned fear of the dark. While some call it horribly filled with clichées, others leave the cinema feeling genuinely rattled.

Be sure to take that special someone out to catch the new romantic drama of the month, “Red Letter Day”, where the protagonist, Audra, receives her partnership letter and a whirlwind courtship blossoms after she contacts the mentioned men in the letter.

If the movies aren’t enough to get your motor running to have wild government sanctioned baby making consider picking up this month’s bestseller in the non-fiction aisle. ‘Werewolf’s Embrace’ is the steamy tale of one woman’s wild fantasy on the full moon.

Romance not your thing? Head to Seattle where the university is holding a special discussion on how the scientific breakthroughs of George Washington Carver are still significant today.

End your romantic day with a trip to Club Colosseum who are also offering discounts to couples who show up wearing red and all ladies are free before eleven.

All partnered individuals should also check their doorsteps for some very interesting 'Romance' baskets courtesy of the government. These baskets are filled with all types of sweets and treats to encourage couples to put aside their differences, and hesitation and get down to meeting the beast with two backs!!

We did it, kids! Something Blue is six months old!
We owe it all to our fabulous members. We never would have made it this far without you. To show our appreciation, instead of our regular Of The Month awards, we're going to be spotlighting three members each week! For the first week, we're focusing on:

user posted image user posted image user posted image

SarahP - Sunny - WindJester

Sarah is one of our newest members, but she has already made herself feel like we've known her for years. Creative, funny, and fun to write with, she is an addition to our group that we are just thrilled to have. Did you know she also breeds snakes?

Sunny has only three characters, but she manages to make an impact anyway! She's got healthy, thriving plots and has managed to avoid being sweet-talked into taking all the want ads. (Despite everyone's best efforts, of course.) Sunny has been a steady and dependable presence since shortly after we opened, which is always something we appreciate.

WindJester, on the other hand, has considerably more than three, and he manages to maintain every single one of them. He can also be counted on to take want ads and provide us with a never-ending supply of terrible puns, in addition to being an absolute ray of human sunshine.

Click on the pictures above to learn more about these fabulous members!

(You may also be interested in last month's OTMS: Kamala & Ansel Sawyer for most happily married couple, Keegan Malone & Hannah Belanger for best not-so-happy ever after, and Chloe Hasenkamp & Mary Windsor for the thread you most want to see!)

Last month's Albert, a biopic of Albert Einstein focusing on his early life and released in honor of his birthday, is still going strong! Critics are saying it's a strong contender for many awards this year, so catch it on the big screen while you can!

There will also be a special showing of 2012's The Lorax on the 24th in honor of Arbor Day!

If you're more interested in something you can listen to, check out Miss Castle's Mysteries, starring Ridgeway's very own Georgiana Swift!

Head to Ramsey Park on April 11 for an Easter egg hunt for the kids! Put on by the Lipton Institute, there will also be photo opportunities with the Easter bunny, face painting and a bean bag toss tournament, and a barbecue benefiting the local Boys & Girls Club.

Toward the end of the month, you might find yourself a bit more truthful than usual. Some may say it's because of some planet in retrograde, some may say it's because of alien gamma rays scrambling our brains. There are those who might suggest it's something in the water (particularly since it seems to affect a whole neighborhood at a time). What's the real cause? You'll just have to wait and find out!

It's time for this week's Member Spotlight! This week we're talking about:

Imogen - Zyqoa - Des

Imogen is one of those unicorns who has, so far, managed to keep herself to one character, but boy does she make that one count! Evvie is a delight to read, and of course how could we ignore Imogen being one half of the mastermind behind the goat haunting Seth Hasenkamp's life? Between her writing and her infectious laugh, we're super happy to have her here <3

Zyqoa, purveyor of tragedy and filler of want ads, one of our resident Danes. It's not often I meet someone who takes as much joy in making their characters' lives difficult as I do in mine. However, this is not by any means to say that there's any lack of variation! Every one of her characters is tragic in their own unique way, thanks to a plethora of creativity.

Des is absolutely adorable, as a human being. I've seen pictures, so I know it's true. She is also a delightful human being and RP partner. While Zyqoa may love tragedy, Des can be depended on to write a bit more cuteness and humor. Simply delightful!

It's time for this week's Member Spotlight! This week we're talking about:

Bekah - Karibean - Heather

I actually have known Bekah for a while! I met her on another matching site. I never really talked to her much, but I appreciated her writing and how easy to get along with she was, and I'm very excited to plot with her now that she is here on Something Blue!

Karibean hardly needs any introduction. She is one of the most versatile writers I've seen in my RPing career- angst? Humor? Cuddly soft shit? Kari basically does it all. While she is a vile temptress, you can't really hold that against her because even as she's chipping away at your resolve, you're already excited for the new plot.

Heather is also someone I know from way back when. I've always appreciated her open-minded attitude toward plotting, as well as her writing, her patience and willingness to match any posting speed, and her just being a delightful human being to talk to.

It's time for our final Member Spotlight! This week we're talking about:

user posted image user posted image user posted image

Emy - Rose - LexiLu

Emy is one of our quieter members, always lurking in the background and ready to pop in. While she isn't as vocal as some of our other writers, she's just as appreciated and represents one half of one of Ridgeways sweetest couples whom we can't wait to read more from. Just from the beginning of their thread tho - Be careful, you might need to see the dentist for the cavities!

Rose is our friend from down under, a true surfboarding opera singer who routinely snuggles with koala and runs with kangaroos... Or maybe not quite. She's always ready to chime in in our main chat, and always enthusiastically bright and cheerful. Currently she plays the site's only therapist, as well as Ceres - Suspected husbandkiller. Maybe it's good with a girl with a little bite in her, given she's married to actual cannibal Shia LaBeouf.

LexiLu is just a gift and a blessing. She works in the veterinary field, and her boyfriend breed and raise goats, which is only part of what makes her so darn cool. On top of having fun plot ideas and characters, she posts like a machine, so you're rarely ever waiting on her, and she's so, like, nice. Writing with her is just so easy and delightful. 10/10 would recommend.

Click on the pictures above to learn more about these fabulous members!

We're so thankful for both our more established members and our newer friends! Here's to six more months!

May the odds, be ever in your favor!
May is officially here and with it brings two brand new events for the site to take part in! The upper class and social elite are invited to the grand soiree of the year. A chance to rub shoulders with the finer people of Ridgeway shouldn't be passed up - Especially not when those people can make life a lot harder if you do.

At the same time, the Downtown May Day Extravaganza takes place. Unfolding over a full day, it has all of what a good party should have. Food? Amazing offers on pretty much everything? Banging music? The party don't stop at all and attracts people from surrounding cities such as Seattle to join in on the fun.

In April we also got a new skin! We hope everyone likes it, and we have attempted to work out the major kinks. If there are still problems, please let the staff know! We are, after all, here to help.

A special thanks to our staff member Swampie, for her persistence and hard work in installing and modifying the selected skin and providing all of the graphics for not only the site but for our members as well. It's thanks to her that Something Blue can go into the second half of its first year, looking sharper than ever.

We are slowly updating our claims and registries to different layouts as well, but this is a work in progress.

Our Of the month-spotlights are back again, this month celebrating the site's most Timid Turtle, Proudest Peacock and bringing back the thread wish list.

We have got Penelope Hasenkamp with her blushy cheeks as our timid turtle.
We have got Matthew Roquefort-Miller as our proud peacock with his fancy hair and nose-in-the-air attitude.
And last but not least, a lot of us really want to see Elizabeth Windsor and her new temporary roomie, Lilibeth Roquefort-Miller have a thread together!
Doubling up on our thread wish, the site's players are also excited and hope to see Vitullo Morrison and Wyatt Wesley in a thread together, potentially including some of the accidental trash talk that Wyatt Wesley is getting known for!

Cinematography in May
For entertainment this month we have both the Hasenkamp Soiree and the May Day Extravaganza. If however, those are not to your liking or you fancy yourself a movie instead, this month has some very interesting features to go and watch.

First of all, Ridgeway is buzzing with the news of Toussaint Schoell directing his new feature. Very few details have made it far but not one, not two, but three Ridgeway talents have been cast in the movie already. This should also give plenty of work to Cameron Castillo and Callyn Moran as a new feature means that they will need both props and costumes.

You can check the Tattle Tale for gossip around the casting of the lead roles.

The cinema of Ridgeway also offers the following movies in May:

In the dark, which is an adult cartoon that explores the thought of "What if sex toys could talk?" It's got rave reviews as one of the funniest movies of the year already, and while you may not want to bring your kids to this one, it'll likely end up becoming a classic movie given time.

Beautiful Stranger, come my way is the touching story of a young woman who sees a stranger on the train one morning. The movie follows her as she becomes obsessed with this stranger, believing that he is destined to become her partner, the crushing defeat when he doesn't and ends with her realizing that her actual partner was the right one for her after all. It's the kind of sappy cinema you can't get enough of.

The Leash of Life is the heartwarming story of a dog who experiences reincarnation after a tragic death. We see its journey to find the owner it left behind, again and again, and the profound effect its life and death had on both the dog and its owner. The movie explores themes such as depression and loss, but is, at the end of the day, a warm movie that many adults have shed a tear during. Children love it for the colorful imagery and the slapstick humor.

    Several new shows are also starting up, hoping to become classic in the world of television. These include;

Breaking Good, a drug kingpin on the brink of death is miraculously cured of cancer and decides to turn his life around. He uses his chemistry knowledge to open young minds to the wonders of science and we follow his struggle to win his family back after they have been repartnered due to his incarceration.

Bad Blood, a tv-show that attempts to answer the question "What happens when you get removed?". It was almost canceled by the government but was green-lit in the end. The program is not recommended for anyone younger than sixteen, and will not be allowed to air in homes of citizens with psychological disorders or a history of mental instability.

Gal-Pals. This romantic comedy follows two best friends who were matched to each other's brothers and their way through the world. It has a lot of heart to it and awkwardness too!
