Science Is King

Science dictates lives: what you do, where you live, who you marry. It takes care of you, covers your bills, keeps you healthy, and all it asks in return is that you participate in a few experiments. Ridgeway has always been a control group, left mostly alone, but the Department of Science has been moving in, and everything is about to change.

Is this love, or, just sexual desire, we're gonna start a fire!

Bradford sighed as he walked outside his family's house and across the street to inspect his soon to be home. Bradford looked to the blue sky as he thought about being unable to persuade Quiana to abandon their partnership. It was rather unfortunate but what could he do? She was a tougher cookie than he had originally thought.. for better or for worse. Going back over the texts a few days later.. he felt a touch guilty. He didn't exactly mean to say all that he did, he planned to be a bit more reserved but clearly that didn't happen. It was just a lot of unfortunate timing. He was hoping he had a little bit longer so he could explore the trail with Eleanor a bit more and way less rushed. Now he was on a time clock and it was much shorter than he wished for it to be. There was that, as well as the fact that he'd worked incredibly hard to achieve his higher standing spot (to some degree) and this was how the system repaid him.

Yes, he would admit to someone who would never speak to Quiana, she was indeed very cute. At least in the photo he received. That, compared with a few lovely characteristics, he could probably be pretty happy. But her merit was low in his eyes. She was a neutral merit and while it might have been okay if her merit hadn't been recovered after the trial, he might of had much more respect for her since she would have been a higher merit before. Plus, even if she was indeed innocent, which was the case verdict, people still seemed skeptical. In all honesty he felt slightly betrayed by the system and was very confused.

Bradford closed his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose, doing his best to focus on what was at hand. Exploring the house his partner and him had been given. His father commented on possibly coming to check the place out in a little while but he doubted that would happen. After all, Seth was usually a fairly busy guy and this wasn't some soccer or baseball game. He could come check it out at any time he was free. He fumbled with the key for a moment but eventually managed to unlock the door and enter. He stepped inside and nodded to himself; it was a very lavish house to say the least and he was satisfied with it. Leaving his shoes at the door, Bradford roamed around, looking at the rooms and such. He'd really gotten fortunate with the layout, everything was very well planned out.

He quietly walked up the stairs after he figured he looked around the main floor enough. He could feel himself getting excited, forgetting of all the things nagging at him in his head. This was it, he was finally becoming an 'adult' so to speak. At least in the sense that now he would have his own house and everything, no more apartments or anything like that. It was quite an exciting time.

Quiana had enjoyed single life a lot. It agreed with her. She liked to be in charge of herself, to not have anybody keeping track of her whereabouts or actions. So her future partnership had never been something she had looked particularly forward to, not the way some people did, but when she received the letter she couldn't deny being a little excited. And she had high hopes. Not so much about merit or job, none of that really mattered to her, but she knew what she wanted. Someone handsome and charming, who would count himself lucky to be with her. And what did she get? Bradford Hasenbitch, as her friend had so colorfully described him. A man who might be cute on the outside, but judging by what she had seen so far definitely wasn't the type of guy she wanted to spend any sort of time around. And now she had to.

Of course she could still choose to skip. She could run for the hills, and she'd probably be okay. Her merit would take a hit, but she would recover. She always did. Bradford had even hinted that he wanted her to do just that. He wanted to be rid of her, and the headache that she was apparently providing him. But it wasn't going to be that easy. The more he hinted, the more stubborn she got. If he wanted the partnership to disappear, he would have to back out himself. And she seriously doubted that Mr. Picture Perfect High Merit Hasenkamp had the guts that would take.

One thing was still exciting, though. They were getting a big fancy house in the best neighborhood of Ridgeway, and she was actually really looking forward to that. She'd be rubbing elbows with the establishment on a daily basis, and just imagining the looks she'd be getting had her smirking. She was not a shy woman, one look in her closet made that abundantly clear, and she had no intention of changing anything about herself to appease anybody. No, she would make an artform of raising eyebrows, and loving it every step of the way. That much she could barely wait for.

So she had decided to check out the house she'd be moving into. The address had been provided in the notice, so she knew exactly where to go. And since she wasn't doing much lately it really wasn't hard to find the time to drop by. She had borrowed her mother's car since she didn't have one herself, but refused to bring her mother along with her - despite Davina's eager pleading. Actually she was probably even more excited about the whole thing than Quiana herself, however for slightly different reasons. Davina was the type of woman to admire high society, and the fact that soon enough her daughter would be walking among them was a very big deal to her. She had even taken to calling her "Mrs. Hasenkamp", which Quiana had tried objecting to, but there was really no point. Her stubbornness didn't exactly come from strangers.

Locating the right address took a little while longer than maybe it should have, but Quiana had never been in this part of town before - and she spend a bit of time admiring the buildings. She did eventually manage to find her house though, and parked the car on the curb. Heading up the walkway to the entrance she was busy examining the front yard, and the excitement started growing. It really was a pretty place, and living there probably wouldn't be half bad.

She had actually just planned on looking in through the windows, since she had no way of actually getting in, but just for the fun of it she tried the doorhandle. And to her great surprise the door swung open. With a somewhat giddy spring in her step she crossed the threshold and stepped into the hall, but her heart sunk when she spotted a pair of shoes by the door. Apparently someone was here. Maybe it was some kind of government employee checking up on things prior to her and Bradford moving in? She really didn't know what the procedure was. But the presence of another person wasn't going to stop her from exploring, so she closed the door behind her and ventured forward, heels clicking on the floor. She had no intentions of following her predecessor's example.

Bradford frowned a bit as he entered the master bedroom. Sorting out rooms would probably be a somewhat tough situation and he doubted the house would grow populated any time soon.. possibly ever unless they adopted. Only time could really tell. A quiet, divided house. It was a rather unfortunate tale for the lovely place. Luckily enough, Bradford could probably manage to be at work or busy with school rather frequently.. maybe he could even ask for the night shifts. As he thought about his frustrations, he began to feel a hint of guilt. It wasn’t exactly Quiana’s fault that the two were matched, it was the system.. but with that said, Bradford had a lot more faith in the system than he did in Quiana. Plus, mistake were always a potential, not everyone was completely perfect.

He sighed a bit as he walked into the bathroom. He wondered what his dad would say. He had told him pretty much everything, even showed him the file and such but Seth chose to shrug slightly and told Bradford to believe in the system. The only thing holding Bradford back though, was the fact that mistakes can happen. This had to be it. He’d worked so hard for everything. Bradford had been pushed to his limits by all of his parents and now he received someone who probably barely did anything. Apparently she was a singer at some point.. who knew if she even did that anymore after the whole trial thing. He doubted it. So basically the system was just going to let this girl freeload off of him and his hardwork. Of course, if he had been working this hard all along so he could provide the best for his partner, things would be different. He worked as hard as he could so he could meet someone with an equal amount of drive and determination.

Bradford stared out the window lost in thought as he slowly began to count upwards. He needed something to stop his mind from derailing. Things had been going so smoothly just a moment ago, where did it go wrong? He shook his head a bit as he turned from the window to exit the room. That’s when he heard it. Of course, he didn’t panic immediately, he simply figured it was his dad. In fact, he genuinely smiled, Seth had taken the time to come after all. He began making his way to the stairs when he noticed something was off. Except maybe in an even better way than anticipated.. the clicking on the floor sounded like shoes a girl would wear.. and the only girl that came to mind was Eleanor. “Eleanor?” He called out as he bounded down the stairs, “You should’ve told me you wanted to come over, I coul—“ Bradford’s words caught in his throat as he reached the bottom of the stairs and looked to see who it was.

His nightmare had presented itself in full force. His face went from joy to confusion, to disappointment all fairly quickly but certainly noticeable if Quiana paid attention. What was she doing here? What..? How..? What were the odds of them coming at the same time.. Bradford would have figured Quiana would have stayed away till they absolutely had to move in. He definitely would have... but this house was across the street from his parents house so it wasn’t very inconvenient to go check it out. Bradford remained still for a moment, closing his eyes to concentrate and harden his feelings. He didn’t want to believe it was happening... it was rather unfavourable circumstances as well but it was bound to happen eventually.. maybe she’d just leave since now she knew Bradford was here. That would probably be way too easy though..

He reopened his eyes and much to his dismay, she was still present but at least he had managed to regain his composure. “Quiana.” he said simply with a sort of nod as a greeting. She looked nearly just like the picture he had gotten.. except now he couldn’t deny he’d received the wrong folder.. His lips were perused together, he held himself up well. Not in a super smug look, or even an intimidating look. He was simply doing his best to show that he wasn’t afraid. He wasn’t afraid of what he had said when they texted and he wasn’t afraid of her now. While he did feel moments of guilt, more or less that’s all they were to him. Just moments. Of course, Bradford wasn’t an expert on body language and facial expressions so it could’ve come off much differently than intended, but this is what he was aiming for.

Quiana had barely stepped inside when she heard someone move around upstairs. Curious to see who she was sharing the house with she approached the staircase, but stopped in her stride when she heard the sound of an excited voice. Eleanor? Clearly whoever it was, he wasn't expecting her. She didn't consider that a problem though, imagining that anyone could only be positively surprised to find her at the bottom of the stairs. Beautiful and in skimpy clothing, there was really no way she could foster disappointment.

Except for in one person. Bradford. And of course that was exactly who she was suddenly face to face with. He cut off his words, and his face went through several emotions before he got himself under control - none of which were anywhere near the appreciation and excitement Quiana had expected from a man who would get to share her bed for the rest of his life. She was bloody gorgeous, and the prick should be over the moon. He couldn't possibly do better. There was no such thing as better.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me", she exclaimed, not even trying to mask the frustration in her voice. How was it even possible that the two of them came around at exactly the same time? It was ridiculous. Like the universe had some sort of vendetta against the two of them. Leaning her weight over on one leg and resting her hands on her hips, she sized him up. It looked as if he'd be slightly taller than her if she went barefoot, which of course she didn't do much. She swore by her high heels and barely owned a pair of flat shoes, but that only meant it was a good thing he was taller than her. Then at least she wouldn't tower over him and make them look even more ridiculous than they probably already would. His height was just about the only positive thing she could find, though. Other than that his look was utterly boring. No sense of flair or adventure, just... Nothing. God, this was going to be a drag.

And as if being boring and disappointed wasn't enough, he even had the nerve to look at her with disdain. Like he was better than her. At least that was how she interpreted the look on his face - a look of arrogance and pretentiousness. She wanted nothing more than to wipe it off his stupid face, but she wasn't quite sure how to do it. She wanted to mess with him, to drive him crazy, just to get back at him for the way he treated her. Nobody should be allowed to get away with saying she was ruining their life. If he opened his eyes for just a second and looked past whatever crap his parents had been feeding him, he'd realize that she could only make it better. Of course now she had no intention of actually trying to do that. No, her plan was to make everything as difficult for him as she possibly could, and though she hadn't expected to start already there was really no reason why she couldn't.

She cocked her head, making the long black hair sway, and looked at him with a devious expression on her face. "That's right, Prince Charming. Your wife is home"

Of all the times they could have ran into each other, of course it had to be now. It was such an inconvenience. Bradford held back a laugh at Quiana's comment. He at least now he knew for sure how they felt for each other. In his cold demeanor he responded, "Yes, I'd have to agree with that statement." He wasn't sure why things had ended up the way they did.. if the system could just admit it made a mistake, he would wholeheartedly forgive them. At this point anything seemed like an upgrade though he knew that wasn't completely true. For now though, that was his feelings and he was sticking to it.

Bradford knew it would be a tough road ahead of him. It was interesting what happened when two stubborn as hell people clashed. It would certainly be a battle for the ages, at least Bradford figured he'd remember it for a long time. Bradford didn't feel the need to wear anything extravagant. He was a Hasenkamp and he was ready to do anything to let his name and face do the talking. With that said, he really only dressed in slacks or some sort of a nicer pair of shorts paired with a wide variety of polos or button downs. He wanted to look the part if he planned to be the part.

It didn't really matter to him if Quiana tried to make his life hell. Two could play at that game, especially if she was looking to start the war. "Oh lucky me!" he said in a rather cheerful and upbeat voice, though, laying the sarcasm on thick. In reality Bradford was ready to pull all his hair out. It was a lot for him to take in all at once. He wasn't really focused on Quiana though, he was just stressed by her coming into his life, not really by anything she had done.. yet. Life was a real bitch sometimes.

This partnership was only a temporary thing though. She'd slip up. She had to. Somewhere, somehow, he just knew she would, and then he would make his move. He'd end it all in one blow. That, or she would concede to his attitude and simply accept the graceful life she had been unfairly awarded and do her best to be happy. Despite not really caring much for Quiana, he would and could be decent at least, if she played nicely as well. He could keep his thoughts and feelings to himself, or at least away from Quiana's ears.

"Since you're a little late to the party, I can spare you most of the details, the house is great. In good condition and plenty of space. There's not much more too it so, you can probably head home now if you want.. or if you need I'd even drive you home."

So far it would seem that Bradford wasn't much for emotions. At least not the positive kind... A cold shoulder and angry glances appeared to be the best Quiana could hope for. She wasn't exactly cheering, but she supposed she could find a way to live with it. If things went her way she wouldn't be home much anyway. She'd be on the road, doing shows all over the country - once she got her career back on track. It was in a slump right now, but it was not going to stay that way. She wouldn't let it. Now for more reasons than just the pure ambition she'd been driven by for years.

Bradford's sarcasm was not lost on his fiance. She considered herself quite well-versed in sarcasm and shade, and she had no problem communicating with him that way if that was what he wanted. But for now she was not laying it on near as thick as he was, instead taking a slightly different approach. "You have no idea, honey", she purred and winked at him. She was a cat, and he was nothing but a ball of old yarn. She had every intention of batting him around for her own amusement.

While he was talking she took a couple of slow, drawling steps to close the distance between them. He could try and get rid of her all he wanted, she wasn't biting. "What a gentleman. But it would be such a shame to waste a trip, don't you think?", she leaned in, her eyes locked on his and a playful smile pulling at the corners of her mouth. "I'm here, you're here. The house is empty. We'll be married soon anyway", she reached out to trace a finger down his chest, willfully forcing her gaze away from his face to throw a glance up the stairs.

After a moment she straightened up and took her hand away. "I'd so hate missing a chance to get in your way", she proclaimed and stepped around him, heading up the stairs that he had just come down from. "Oh, and darling, the party doesn't start until I arrive. You'll see that soon enough", she added over her shoulder, feeling very pleased with herself. She might not have wanted an uptight prick, but at least she could have some fun with him.

Quiana was very full of herself as well, wasn't she? She seemed to really embrace the whole ruining Brad's life.. something he was hoping wouldn't be the case. He supposed that it helped him learn more about her character but even then it wasn't much of a plus side. It was probably half his fault that things had come to this... well maybe 99%, but she was the one to text first, and she was quite sassy. It was quite amusing the similarities in self-confidence, as Brad would like to call it.

Bradford wasn't all that amused with the fact that Quiana was calling him 'honey' and herself his wife. Technically, he still had some time before they were married and he was clinging to his last few moments of freedom. After all, as much as he was displeased, when the time came he understood what it meant. He wouldn't do anything that extreme, and while at the moment the best Quiana could probably expect were some displeased glances and a grumpy husband, that was about the extent of his displeasure as well. Of course, should Quiana choose to push things further, then he would happily push back.

That said, he very much did not appreciate her getting up all close to him and doing that thing. A strong eye roll definitely happened but Bradford didn't move back. He told himself that it was an intimidation thing but in all honesty he couldn't have been completely sure. Bradford hadn't given much thought to having kids, or even sex really... it had been something on the back burners for the most part.. and then this feeling multiplied by like -100 when thinking about being with Quiana. It never really crossed his mind until now.

Before he really had time to comment on anything she moved away and towards the upstairs. He was slightly stunned from the comment about hating to miss a chance to get in his way. He wasn't sure if she was just being annoying and copying what he had said before or these were her own words, but either way it was a disturbing feeling. Two could play at the game though. He watched quietly as she began up the stairs, letting her speak out once more about being the party. "I'm pretty sure you're mixing up the word party, with the word ragnarok...in which case I can attest to." he grumbled somewhat loudly as he began to follow her up the stairs.

He wouldn't let himself be played like that. He was so much better, and so much of a worse enemy to have than this... this nobody really. If things continued like they were, he wondered how long they'd actually have a house for. Bradford wouldn't be surprised if it was destroyed rather quickly. "Why.." he sighed as he climbed the steps slowly. He felt defeated, but he promised then that he would do everything he could to avoid looking that way. This was it, he was going to do something he hoped he'd never have to. He looked up towards the top of the stairs in Quiana's direction, "Since you're here already, and I'd hate to make you come all the way out another time, I'll have my family to come over later. Unless of course you can't handle something like that.." Of course, he knew this was a bluff, but there was no way she'd be down to meet the family already, right? Or at least she wouldn't call him out on it, would she?

He wasn't really sure but what else did he have to try and scare her off? He was only willing to go so far as any further would likely damage his merit and tarnish his name. At this point all he could do was accept things and more or less involve himself with school and eventually work with as much as possible until she slipped up... a truly unfortunate turn of events.

Quiana could tell she was getting to him, and she was loving it. The sighs and the eyerolls, she soaked them up. She might not like the thought of marrying him, but she was undeniably moving up in society. Meanwhile Bradford was being dragged down, at least from the point of view of him and his kind of people. She wasn't the perfect wife, not in any way, and clearly he hated the fact that he had to marry her. It looked like he hated the thought of her more than she did him, and that alone was a victory in Quiana's eyes. To her there was no chance of them actually getting along. He had ruined that very efficiently already. So she wasn't even going to bother trying. No, this wasn't a marriage to Quiana anymore - it was a competition. And she wanted to win.

She reached the top of the starts just after Bradford's grumble, and turned around to look down at him. "You've just never been to a real party. Don't worry, honey, I'll show you", she threw another wink his way. "I'll rock your world."

This was becoming more and more entertaining by the minute. She might have wanted to run screaming when she first saw him coming down the stairs, but now she was more than happy that she'd stayed. She could be more than a little twisted, and torturing her husband was the ideal outlet for the aggression he had caused. Really it was his own fault. If he had just been nice to her she wouldn't find it necessary to put him in his place. But he had chosen to be a prick, and now he would have to suffer for it.

The next words out of his mouth caught her by surprise, though. She couldn't imagine he was in any way eager to introduce her to his family, as she felt certain they wouldn't approve of her. It didn't seem likely that kind and open-minded people raised someone like this... So introducing them to each other felt like a trap. Like a scare tactic. Maybe he was hoping that if he put her in a group of people who didn't like her, she'd be scared off? Well, she had a surprise in store for him then! She didn't scare easy. He could throw as many pompous, arrogant pricks at her as he wanted, she wasn't backing down. The only one who'd regret that was him. So she smiled, a sugary sweet grimace that she didn't even try to make convincing.

"Why, that sounds lovely! They'll be my family soon too, I should really get to know them", she was not about to back down from a challenge - or a chance to remind him that they'd be husband and wife before long. "You really are just full of excellent ideas"

Quiana was big on calling herself the party though he wasn't sure if it was to inform him on what he was apparently going to be missing out on, or if she was using the word party as a replacement for the word along the lines of misery. Regardless, he wasn't sure he was looking forward to the rest of his life, it definitely would be a long one. He supposed he would now have a lot of time for work though.. so that was a.. bonus? He'd certainly have to be careful with his schoolwork now.. he wasn't sure how far she'd go to make his life miserable.

He didn't really care that this was his fault, it didn't matter if time was rewound and he wasn't interested in someone else at the time. He still would've felt cheated by the system and the results would probably be close to the same. Usually when he disagreed with someone, he could ignore them and move on but now that wasn't the case. He threw meetings his parents into the mix but it didn't seem like it hit quite like he expected.

Bradford gave a warm smile as Quiana gave him a 'compliment'. "I'm glad you think I'm full of good ideas now, it's a shame you didn't realize that sooner though." he didn't quite say it as smug as he would've liked, but regardless he was sure he could get at least one point against her. He wasn't quite as excited about Quiana's reaction to meeting his family. She seemed ready for it.. which was the exact opposite of what Bradford was looking for. None the less, talking was one thing, when the time came to actually meet his family, he hoped he'd be a little more successful in at least catching Quiana on the back foot if nothing else.

"You just took a little while to get there. That's alright, we can all struggle", another sweet smile, laced with underlying sarcasm. She had a feeling he was hinting to his thinly veiled attempt at making her back out on him, presenting it as a 'good idea'. Which she supposed it sort of was... They weren't exactly a good match, that much had been clear from the very first words uttered, but she had no intention of tarnishing her name. Especially not right now. She was still struggling with the aftermath of the trial, and if she did indeed skip out on her partnership she could be sure it would be used as ammunition to prove that she was a bad apple. And she didn't want that. Sure she had a reputation, that often came with her line of work, but there was a difference between being a rumored troublemaker and actually having a record to back it up. The latter was sure to influence her career - and she was not willing to throw that away to please the likes of Bradford.

Quiana might have tried to exude confidence at the prospect of meeting her future in-laws, but as a matter of fact that had her a little terrified. She felt pretty sure they wouldn't like her, and while she could hold her own against one snobby elitist she wasn't as sure she'd be able to hold off three of them. It would probably get ugly, and she was sure Bradford knew that. Maybe he even counted on it. It could very well be another scare tactic, another attempt to send her running for the hills. Yet he hadn't even replied on the topic, so maybe he wasn't exactly hell-bent on it himself.

With a smirk on her delicate features she spun on her heels and ventured into the master bedroom. The room was chosen at random, and the only reason she was even moving in the first place was to make him follow her. If she could drag him around the entire house she would, just to bug him. And it was a nice image of how she pictured their life - her strutting around, proud and unashamed, and him just trying to keep up.

Her eyes wandered around the room, taking it in. It was certainly nicer than where she came from, she couldn't deny that. She put her palms on the bed, pressing down to test the springs. "You know... I can have ideas too", the smirk on her face grew as she tilted her head, making the long black hair fall to the side. Her fingers ran along the bedspread. "And I'm thinking that maybe you should wait to call your parents", she straightened up and turned around to face him, biting her lower lip.

Is this love, or, just sexual desire, we're gonna start a fire!

EST + he/him

Bradford more or less ignored Quiana's comment. He'd taken a hint and figured out that petty much everything she had to say in his presence was probably going to be some sarcastic comment that belittled him. Not that it wasn't called for or anything like that, but he wasn't expecting anything less of it. One might have been offended but in the end Bradford saw it as fair. He could agree that he helped start their little feud but he'd also be willing to argue the fact that Quiana helped 50/50.

It didn't take long for Bradford to realize what Quiana was thinking. Of course she was just trying to get him to follow along.. and while the idea was annoying, what else was he going to do? There was only so much one could do in a new house, especially considering neither of them had their stuff moved in yet, so it wasn't like Quiana or him could ignore each other while they organize their stuff and put it where it was needed. At least he hoped they'd ignore each other.. that was at least going to be Bradford's goal.

He vowed to just ignore the facts. Just because the system had partnered them, didn't really mean they actually had to do anything.. right? Like, they could just be sort of roommates, right? There had to be some kind of work around, Bradford could feel it.. well, he could feel there was a solution out there, he was just hoping that there would be other solutions than having to just deal with this partnership.

He watched Quiana from just inside the doorway as she took in the room. While he greatly appreciated the house, it was a house that he'd pretty much always lived in. The layout and everything was different but the quality of the house mirror his parent's house. He was glad to say that he could call this one his home though, he definitely could have been placed elsewhere.

He watched as she turned around and suggested that he should wait in calling his parents. In his head, he wasn't sure if he'd even really meant it when it came to calling them but then Quiana gave him one of those looks and he just kind of stared at her confused and maybe even somewhat suspiciously. There was no way she was actually serious, right? All the bickering and fighting? Possibly even traces of hate? Did that stuff just all disappear? Or maybe she was just trying to make a fool of him. Teasing him though she knew it wouldn't go anywhere. What was he supposed to do? He wasn't really all that interested but sometimes things just couldn't be helped, ya'know? Unless this was his turn to walk away, but then maybe that would make things harder on him in the long run.. Bradfords mind was racing and he was growing increasingly frustrated with himself and his mixed feelings. He was better than that, right?

She wears strength and darkness equally well. The girl has always been half goddess, half hell

GMT+1 + She/her

Quiana wasn't quite sure how to interpret Bradford's silence. Sure he followed her the way she'd wanted him to, and that was mighty pleasing, but he wasn't engaging her. She'd expected him to reply with a snarky comment, to stand up for himself and defend his choices against her attacks. But he didn't. The way she saw it there could be two explanations. Either he felt as if she was so far beneath him that arguing with her was a waste of his precious time - or he actually felt a little bad about the way he had treated her during their first interaction, maybe even realizing he'd been unreasonably mean-spirited. But Quiana leaned very much towards the first explanation and would definitely need more substantial proof to be swayed.

So she was trying to push his buttons. To confuse him, knock him on his ass. She wanted a response, she wanted him not to know what to do with himself, and judging by the way he looked at her that was exactly what she'd achieved. Feeling very smug she decided to push it even further, just to see how far he'd let her go. She couldn't imagine he would actually jump into bed with her, but if this was going to turn into a game of chicken she definitely wouldn't be the one to back down. And who knew, maybe a lay was what he needed to stop being so pretentious.

Slowly she crossed the distance between them. "I mean... Just because the house isn't technically ours yet doesn't mean we can't break it in, right?", she touched her upper lip with the tip of her tongue and then slipped her arms around his neck. As a little girl she'd been shy and awkward, but as she'd grown into her body and had her talented confirmed time and time again she had become a very confident young woman - and she had no problem using her assets to manipulate her way to getting what she wanted. She knew she'd be spending her life pushing her husband's buttons, doing what she could with what she had to convince him to live their life the way she wanted. So why not start now?

Her dark-brown eyes met his, and she cocked her head slightly. She was very eager to see how he would respond to her advances, and she allowed this excitement to shine through her eyes, thinking that he'd probably interpret it as something else.
