Science Is King

Science dictates lives: what you do, where you live, who you marry. It takes care of you, covers your bills, keeps you healthy, and all it asks in return is that you participate in a few experiments. Ridgeway has always been a control group, left mostly alone, but the Department of Science has been moving in, and everything is about to change.

All you have is your fire and the place you need to reach. Don't you ever tame your demons but always keep them on a leash

It was bound to happen sooner or later, she supposed, but today was the day that she transferred from her beautifully tasteful house in the well to do neighbourhood of Hebron to her whole newly awaiting future (that their great government chose for her) in...Deerfield. It was just one of the reasons that she thought there needed to be better scientists in this country and a better ruler- when she’d eventually become ruler of this city, Deerfield would be the first thing to go. It was nice to have free help though, and she couldn’t say that she didn’t enjoy her new husband Wyatt sweaty and laboring hard in a wifebeater. All the loads that he carried gave the perfect opportunity to see the muscles in his arms and back tense, and occasionally a vein or two stick out. Delicious. She only wished it was socially acceptable for her to lay back in an outdoor lounge chair sipping on margaritas as she enjoyed the show, and do nothing but that all day.

While she had agreed to the offer of both ‘men’ in this family helping her out with the move, she had given as much iced tea, biscuits and apples that she had to the kid. Not because she liked him, but she was still disposed to the belief that he was useless. Surprisingly enough though, he was as strong as Wyatt had said he would be. So maybe he would be able to prove his worth to her after all. “More iced tea, boys?” she asked bringing out the jug again from the kitchen onto a coffee table that was set up on the porch for such things, this time more full and with more lemons. Before either had a chance to say anything she poured more into the glasses there, before having a glad chug of hers. Closing her eyes in pleasure at the taste and the coldness of it in this hot day. It was more a bit of an opportunity to have some more herself without appearing selfish. She’d need a lot of comfort today- particularly of the alcoholic kind once Champion went to bed. It was a time of mourning after all, of her once beautiful neighbourhood. And after her long drink/slip (which just about emptied all of it) she placed the glass down hastily, before either bringing the glasses to them if it was wanted or empty handed to assist with some of the easier items.

Why try-it when you can DO IT?!

EST + Lady Person

Moving Day. Wyatt had been stretched between two thoughts about what this day would mean. It was an odd feeling being indecisive-he was usually all one way or the other, no in between. He was looking forward to having a woman in the house again. There were just some things that needed a woman's touch to be complete and a home was one of them. Strange as it was, he missed the frilly additives, the smell of home cooking and floral perfumes. It would be nice to have a woman around again. On the other hand Ceres had made it clear that moving into Deerfield would not be the highlight of her day. While he could empathize with her distaste it made hm worried on weather they would be able to continue to get along if she was looking down on him.

That was a question for another time because today he was focusing on getting all her things unloaded from the moving truck. The hauling was the easy part, he hoped it wouldn't take long for Ceres to then unpack and incorporate all her stuff in the house. She had been kind enough to provide he and his son with snacks to keep them going and he grinned to himself to see that she was already doing her womanly duties. Champion was pulling his weight-his tiny biceps straining as he carried boxes that were almost his size but Wyatt could tell the boys mind was elsewhere.

Champ all but threw himself toward Ceres when she offered a refill of his drink. He hastily gulped his down while Wyatt rubbed his arms slowly before stopping at the table and taking his own offered drink. " This is some delicious iced tea Mrs. Wesley. Probably top ten of all iced teas, right Champ?" he questioned the boy who was getting a refill. The boy nodded quickly, then looked to speak but hesitated.

"What is it?" Wyatt asked, catching the look.

"It's just that..um..there's this-"

"Speak up, boy!"

"There's this, um...I wanted to..."

Wyatt sighed heavily and set his tea down "Now how do you ever expect anyone to give you anything if you can't even ask for it properly. Spit it out, like a man."

The boy, dripping in sweat and with a look of terror on his face took a deep breath, puffed his chest out and glanced at Ceres before starting again "A pool party, sir. At the neighbors. I'd really like to go."

Wyatt eyed his son critically, then looked back to the truck that only had a few more items left to unload. He picked his glass up again and took another swig before laughing, "A pool party?! Well, that's all you had to say in the first place. Sure, get on. Leave us to do some bonding." he grinned at Ceres "But take a shower first, no one likes a stinky kid."

Wide eyed, Champion downed the rest of his tea and sprinted away.

Taking a biscuit he looked to Ceres again "Almost done. I hope you can find a place for all your stuff."

She was glad to know that the iced tea and biscuits were appreciated, not that the small spread was hard to put together but she any kind of gratification was always nice and confirmed that there was a point to these small token offerings. Which otherwise, the woman would probably stop doing. “Oh really?” she asked faking modesty while raising a brow. Before a small smirk came over lips, “Then you should really also try my long islands,” she said unabashedly, sure that junior over there didn’t know what that was yet. The boy himself was silent, mind far away on something else. She cocked her head slightly to the left curiously, as if examining a computer that appeared to be broken.

She watched the small scene as entertainment, not really understanding why the child was so hesitant to speak though she enjoyed watching the way Wyatt was handling it. Although secretly she also wondered the boy’s reaction as he glanced up at her with puffed chest, if he had been refused. But she easily preferred a lack of the child’s appearance. She smirked instead when the grown man of the two turned to her, in particular to his easy going phrasing of their activities. ‘Bonding’ could easily mean more things than one, seeing as the lady was fond of knots and other curious quirks that were instrumental to 'bonding.” It widened for a moment when she watched the eagerness the boy took to leave, it reminded her briefly of her first beginning tastes of young freedom.

Turning to Wyatt again her own features were unreadable, apart from the clear intent of her trying to read him. At the kind gesture the corners of her lips twitched momentarily, imitating a smile.“Thank you for doing this again,” she spoke. If there were any emotion in the woman it would be in her eyes, dancing as she looked him over again, in an easily noticeable silence before she poured herself some more iced tea and them with a flask allowed herself a little extra pizazz, which the woman seemed to make a point of looking at Wyatt before raising her left brow unexpectedly, before she took an easy swig of her glass and again finished which remained of it. “I can help you with the rest,” the woman soon spoke them with an easy smile after that. Which was a sign tonight that the more she drinked the happier she’d be with this Deerfield thing, or it was her way of ‘dealing with it,’ for now at least. It wasn’t a healthy habit after all.

“I’d be happy to help with- other things, as well…” she said as she put down her drink and away her flask. Before she then, without hesitation, climbed up into the trunk of the moving truck, before grabbing a moderately sized box, brought it to the edge of the trunk’s floor, climbed down and picked it up again. She had an easy walk about her, but it held both grace and power. She walked to be noticed, and she was sure to slow her pace when she neared her husband. Her eyes also seemed to slide in his direction, “Hurry up slowpoke, I don't want it to be all work and no play," she challenged playfully. Like it wasn't like he was doing all most of the work.
