Science Is King

Science dictates lives: what you do, where you live, who you marry. It takes care of you, covers your bills, keeps you healthy, and all it asks in return is that you participate in a few experiments. Ridgeway has always been a control group, left mostly alone, but the Department of Science has been moving in, and everything is about to change.

"Baby we were born with fire and gold in our eyes."

Today was nice out, sun was coming out and it was early enough for the heat to be comfortable enough, at least to him. Jackson's mind raced a million miles an hour. He had received a envelope in the mail the day before, noting he was to be partnered. As he looked over the information he realised that he had seen this girl back in highschool, even had a few classes with her if he recalled correctly. After doing a bit of searching, he managed to find her on facebook and send her a message, asking if she was interested in meeting and if so, where she'd like to meet. Everything just seemed to be happening so fast. He felt like he was going to lose his mind.

With all that said though today seemed to be the day Jackson had been.. dreading? anticipating? He chewed on the inside of his cheek as he made his way to the cafe.. Isabelle Grenwick, his partner to be. He couldn't really remember all the much of the girl. She had been a year younger and they didn't really talk all that much. Although that might have been Jackson's fault.. he wasn't exactly sure. He didn't converse all that much with others, but perhaps it was the same for her. I guess he'd find out in due time.

Jackson let out deep breath he didn't even realise he'd been holding in as he stared at the front door. This was it. He looked down at his watch and noted that he was a few minutes early, so he shouldn't be too concerned if she hadn't arrived yet. He supposed it didn't really matter if she showed up after all either, soon they'd move in together regardless. He smoothed out his outfit and ran a hand through his hair before pushing his way through the door. He scanned the cafe, searching for either Isabelle or an open spot for the two.

Was it normal to be nervous when one received a certain envelope in the mail? Something she had been fortunate enough not to have received until recently. Let's just say her parents were thrilled. Fortunately she felt like she had a lump stuck in her throat. While she trusted the science behind the system it did mean everything was about to change for her. Was she ready for that? Was she really ready for what was expected of her? The answer was probably no, not when she thought about it but there was no point running or hiding. It was how it was and the information provided on her assigned partner was not all that bad, let's just say she couldn't argue with any of it. Truth be told she faintly recalled him from school but the memories were not as clear as she hoped they would be because that could have made this easier.

Jackson Jones was his name. He'd made contact with her and she'd responded. She'd spent who knows how long trying on clothes that she'd changed countless times, no thanks to her mother telling her to change each time. Finally her father stepped in and pushed her out the door before her mother could make her change again. She guessed that was some benefit of it all, leaving the nest but then that also meant leaving her siblings in her parents hands, lord help the little ones.

Of course she realized she forgot to get advice on how this meeting should go. Should she call him by his first or surname? Reach for a handshake or not? Be early or late and if so how early or how late? Why was this so complicated she had to wonder.

As she got the cafe she slyly glanced in the windows and couldn't see him, so she was early then. Maybe she should go for a walk around the block then. She was going to do just that however opted to instead just go sit down inside taking a spot by the wall and waited. I mean if he did not show up then it was not the end of the world though it might be for her before he even showed as each time someone opened the door to the cafe she could feel her heart skip a beat, her breath catch in her throat, her body clench from nerves. Each time it was not him and she would sigh, slump a little and regain herself.

Yet sure enough he did show as the sound of the door opened and closed she glanced over and there he was. Suddenly realizing she was utterly nervous she glanced away. So should she go over to him or wave or was that childish? She was not sure so she tucked some hair behind her ear and slowly stood checking her outfit was not creased up and looked back over to where Jackson was raising her hand slightly not wanting to call out.

For whatever reason, it seemed like every bit of Jackson’s body was splitting in half. He really was looking forward to his meeting with Isabelle, but at the same time it felt like he wanted to get as far away from everyone as possible. Regardless, through envisioning what his family would probably say to him right then, he pressed onwards inside. As Jackson looked about, his stomach churned. This was seemingly becoming a much more difficult task than he could have imagined. For him, it was like being thrown into a huge crowd of nobody he knew and all of them wanting to talk. It was a pretty daunting feeling. It took no time at all to spot Isabelle rising from her chair as she offered a wave. She was remarkable and looked very lovely in her outfit. He smiled happily and in relief.

Sure, it would probably be safe to assume that nearly everyone dressed up at least a little bit when meeting their new partner for the first time.. or at least for the first time after the notice of becoming partners came out. With that said though, he still found himself very much pleased in what Isabelle had chosen to wear. It looked really lovely on her. Jackson made his way over to the table Isabelle had chosen. He looked around slightly to see if maybe she had gotten anything to drink yet. He hoped that she hadn’t been here too long before him, he’d of felt pretty bad, even if he was slightly early. It didn’t take long for Jackson to realise that he was running out of room to think of what to say or how to say it. He couldn’t flop now, that would certainly make the worst memory category for sure. Had this place done some remodelling?? It seemed far too small all of a sudden.. Jackson’s thoughts grew muddled and before he knew it, his mind cleared and he was standing on the other side of the table of Isabelle. Oh shoot.. did he hug her? Was that weird? He wasn’t supposed to give her a kiss or something? right?? In front of everyone on their first meeting in so many years? He felt his hands grow warm and suddenly realised that it was quiet. He wasn’t sure how much time had passed with him being silent exactly but he felt bad.

All sense of time had been thrown out of the window.. he shook his head slightly to reset himself. “I uh.. sorry about that I just..” he paused again and pursed his lips together as he looked over Isabelle again. ”Can I get you anything to drink perhaps?” He offered, a smile reappearing on his face as he let out a soft chuckle at his uneasiness. He did his best to play it all off, maybe he could come up with a witty saying in the time for a response.. Regardless of whether she wanted a drink or not, he would get one for himself as well before returning to the table. Jackson really was hoping she was just as uneasy and could understand, or found it reassuring.. or really anything that revolves around her not thinking he looked completely out of place. They had a lot to talk about after all and he was hoping that some coffee would help settle his nerves.. at the very least it could perhaps give them something else to talk about before getting into anything too big.

One would have thought that him turning up would ease her nerves but it only did the opposite it actually increased them all. She had to remind herself to breath because passing out from nerves would not leave a good impression on anyone. With every step he took to get closer to her she could only feel her heart rate increase, now why couldn't they teach you how to stay calm when meeting your partner at school huh? That would have been useful.

Trying to think of what to say as he got closer she was drawing blanks. He already knew who she was so no point on introducing herself. She guessed or rather hoped maybe the conversation would just flow naturally, fingers crossed. Of course as he stood before her on the other side of the table nothing happened, no words, nothing. She could not say she felt awkward, if anything the silence was almost a relief as neither one of them was fumbling on words so far.

As she quickly glanced him over she had to admit he had dressed well, nothing too professional which she liked and the colors didn't draw too much attention to oneself which suddenly made her realize deep blue might not have been the best choice to wear out. None the less as she watched him in silence she had to admit it was rather refreshing to know he might be as nervous as she was, almost made her feel like this was normal then. Though she would admit she kind of felt like a fish in a fishbowl for some reason. Yet she did her best to keep her eyes on him and not from wandering around as she gave him a small smile. Oh right, drinks, was she supposed to have asked him? "Ah... maybe a coffee?" she slowly spoke as she glanced to the counter and then quickly back to him "Or do you drink tea?" rapidly asking him. Which was he a tea or coffee drinker?

Did not matter either way as she stood there for a moment "You look nice... I like that shirt on you" she complimented pointing to his shirt a little. That was the right move, right? Compliment someone on their appearance, she hoped that was the right thing to do as she took a seat placing her hands in her lap to try relax a little. She was utterly glad though her parents were not here and had elected to remain at home because this would be a disaster in their eyes so far, she was sure.

"Baby we were born with fire and gold in our eyes."

Jackson thought back to all of his parents grumbling about his poor interaction skills when his parent’s friends came over to visit for a little while. He had always been a little more shy than his brethren.. and because of that his parents were always giving him little tips and pointers on what to say. Too bad for him that he always groaned back as the words went in one ear and out the other. Those kinds of tips would have certainly been helpful at this point in time. Without further adieu, Jackson offered a drink and Isabelle seemed to accept the offer. Mission complete. He was being gentleman. That was something his older brothers ingrained in him when they had their significant others. Of course, he would have to figure out exactly what it meant but he had the general idea down.

It was up to Isabelle if she wanted to join Jackson in going to the counter to grab drinks but it would only be a brief moment. ”I’m a coffee kind of guy, nothing against tea, it’s just not really my thing.” he said with a sort of shrug. He’d had some tastes of tea before, and he recalled his mom commenting on sometimes it being an acquired taste, but he never really seemed to acquire the taste for tea so he stuck with coffee. Then the compliment came. It felt his heart skip a beat or two as he smiled and scratched the back of his head. He felt his face grow warm though and it caught him slightly off guard.. didn’t think it had been that warm out. That was the cause? Right? ”I’m glad you like it, I wasn’t exactly sure what to wear so..” he trailed off with an awkward laugh, ”But anyways! Thank you, I think you look very lovely in your dress, it suits you well.”he said as he offered a warm smile. He quickly went to order the coffees and pay before returning to the table to sit down across from Isabelle.

So where was he supposed to begin? What were some good things to start off the conversation? He’d forgot to plan this stuff out ahead of time, though he doubted it would have mattered. She’d already made him forget his thought process once by simply being there, a second time wouldn’t have been much of a surprise. After he collected his thoughts and the two seemed comfortable enough in their seats, he’d do his best to strike up a conversation. ”So, how was your trip here? Were you waiting long?” Jackson couldn’t recall if his envelope shared where Isabelle lived but he hoped she didn’t have too far to go to get here. As he looked at her, he took a sip of coffee and began to wonder how it was possible to have so much to talk about that you had nothing to talk about. Like where were you supposed to start? There was just so much information to learn.. and on top of that, he was already having troubles remembering all that was said in the envelope.

Jackson made a quick prayer internally that this remembering thing would become easier the more time he spent with Isabelle.. otherwise he feared he would be climbing up a rocky slope as time went on. After all this kind of thing, this relationship thing, it wasn’t some kind of test or class he could study for, or some kind of book he could go back and reread when he forgot something.. Jackson was quieter in school, sticking to his books and work rather than making lots of friends or dating. This was his first experience and so he didn’t have any other chances to learn what the important things to talk about were or what he shouldn’t talk about.. this was a whole new task, but it was certainly one he was feeling more confident in tackling with each passing moment.

There was nothing wrong with that. Some people liked coffee over tea or tea over coffee and some liked them both. She made a mental note that he liked coffee not tea. Of course she had no idea how he liked his coffee but she couldn't say she was the best coffee dink maker, pancakes however were another matter because those she was pretty good at if she said so herself.

She wasn't lying when she said she liked his top on him, it was a nice top and it did look good on him. He had taste which she assumed was a good thing to have. "Well you did good" she added with a nod and swayed on her feet for a moment from nerves. She was not sure what else to say which made her feel a little awkward. And she had not been expecting him to compliment her outfit, people normally didn't do that let alone guys. It stumped her for a moment as she gave him a small gentle smile and glanced to her outfit "Thank you. If not for my dad you'd have seen something else... mum was making me change... and that's probably a really weird thing to say..." she said looking to the side brushing some hair from her face feeling slightly embarrassed as her cheeks flushed for a moment and she sat down while he went and got the coffee's.

When he returned and asked her a question she realized it was not the sort of question she'd been expecting, but then what had she been expecting? She smiled to herself a little, least he seemed to care. "It was either me or getting here seemed to be so much faster today than it normally is" she shrugged slightly with a small quick shake of her head. Like what was with that! "I wasn't waiting too long. I couldn't figure out if it was best to be early or late..." which was true she had no idea which was the better option but she figured being late might come across as being rude.

Taking a sip of her coffee she had to stop herself coughing, it was stronger than she was use to having. Probably because they didn't let you put cream in it here but that was fine. She figured it was her turn to ask a question, was only polite right? As she picked her brain for a moment she looked up from the cup "The ah... package thingy, said you were studying, right? What are you studying?" She couldn't remember if it told her what path he was going into or not just that he was a college student. Maybe he took her mother's classes, gee the old woman would just love that now.

Today was certainly looking up. Jackson thought it was humorous that Isabelle’s mom was so picky with the clothing.. it brought about the thought of talking everything over with his parents. Was it wrong of him to only briefly send them a heads up? After all, he didn’t mean to fail in elaborating further to his parents but he had a lot to think about at the time. Jackson couldn’t help but smile a bit more than before at her comment about possibly getting to the cafe quicker than normal. He found himself somewhat hoping that it was due to their meeting. Jackson nodded a bit as Isabelle commented on whether she should have been early or late. Punctuality wasn’t all the big of a deal to Jackson, ”No need to worry about that, I wouldn’t have really minded if you were a little late. Things happen.” As long as he knew what was going on, it didn’t really bother him. Of course, he would never known how bummed he would have been if Isabelle didn’t show up, but that was beside the point.

Jackson couldn’t help but feel bad as he watched Isabelle take a sip of her coffee. It didn’t exactly seem to be her favourite and he made sure to take note. Unfortunately, this place wasn’t the absolute best when it came to everyone having the kind of coffee they’d prefer. The cafe heavily frowned upon sugar or cream for whatever reason. It was a really odd thing to think about but he supposed it would have to do for now. Next came a question about his studies. He was fairly interested in what he was studied so he prepped himself to stay laid back and not get too excited about everything. “Oh yes! I actually just recently finished my BA in data collection and I’ll be continuing on with my masters this coming fall.” Jackson’s eyes might have light up slightly but he really did his best to stay reserved. At least for now. It was their first time talking in quite a few years, he didn’t want to scare her off or anything like that already.

His next question most likely flowed out more naturally than his previous comments might have. ”And then, you’re doing..” he paused for just a split moment as he racked his brain for the answer. ”..hair dressing! Yeah? How is that?” Jackson wasn’t completely sure of what that all entailed but he figured he knew the gist of it.. they were the ones that cut and styled hair and stuff. Most likely, he understood that as all things seemed to be, there was probably a lot more too it than that, but this was all he knew. He wanted to know more about her though.. but he wasn’t exactly sure where lines were drawn. Could he ask about someone’s family? Some people were pretty reserved or hesitant when it came to talking about their family and their life and stuff, so for now he figured he’d hold off and go for a different subject. Jackson took another sip of the bitter coffee before continuing onwards, being sure Isabelle was able to finish what she had/wanted to say about her job and such. ”What kind of stuff do you like to do in your free time?”

Jackson was trying hard to sound as confident as possible. He did his best to not sound too hesitant and act like he’d done this before. Even though he hadn’t and it was probably fairly clear. He just wanted to make sure that things didn’t get to a point where they were just sitting there staring at each other. It might be a nice thing to do at a later point in time, but for now he felt as though that’d be a rough experience. It was easier for him to relax a bit (as much as one could when talking to a new partner) when they were talking like normal people and he hoped it was the same feeling for Isabelle. He feared that a longer than usual pause might make things increasingly difficult.. and he’d probably need a lot of help in starting things back up if it happened.

Oh so he would have been fine if she had been a little late then. That was sort of relieving when she thought about it. "I'll make sure to remember that" she said with a nod of her head. She guessed he was right though, things did happen and you couldn't always control them when they did happen, it just happened and you had to deal with it.

She attempted her hand at a question and he seemed to perk up a little at it. So he was very keen on his studies then she assumed. The way he talked about it and lit up when he did caused her to smile slightly at him. It was good he was on the right path and getting through ones BA was a success on it's own let own going for masters. She gave him prompts for going through to a masters level and silently was cheering for him. Of course she realized she would be there when he did go for his masters, while she knew there was little she could do to help with his studies as she didn't know anything about Data Collection she'd have to support him in some other way. "Perhaps you can help me understand it a little more... that way I can assist you with your studies, of course if you want the assistance that is" she said. She helped her siblings so why not help him.

Nodding her head at him to confirm he was correct on her line of work. "It's great. I really like it. I get to help people achieve something they want, make them smile, be creative and chat all day long." Of course there were days where it was quieter and the odd person would come in who didn't want to gossip but normally she was bustling around. Certain seasons where busier than others but she liked helping people achieve a new look, a confidence boost when they needed it. "I do makeup also... graduation gets busy". While indeed she preferred the hairdressing she did enjoy bringing light to people's face through art too. "Suppose the benefit for you is free haircuts whenever you want them" she added with a small chuckle. 'Course she could offer to help keep his hair healthy also and all that jazz if he wanted, might as well take advantage of ones expertise when offered, right.

Taking another sip of her coffee she thought for a moment. "Well, I like music and watching movies. I'm a big fan on drawing... I like books too so reading I guess. Oh and being outside, love nature, going for walks or watching the stars... relaxing really. Oh, oh and I'm huge on motorsports." She couldn't help but grin at that. She loved watching motorsports and hoped to go to one of the massive races one day. "And you?" she asked. She was not much of a busy body really. She spent all day on her feet so she liked to get off her feet after work. That normally meant drawing while her siblings studied to make it easier to reach out to help them. Or curling up on the sofa with a good book, normally fantasy. Though she was a fan of lying on the grass outside and watching the night sky also. Sure she went to cafe's and liked to eat out at times, the odd shopping trip but she hardly ever bought anything. Clubbing however was not something she was experienced in to say the least. She did wonder if they enjoyed any of the same things. Hopefully otherwise things could become problematic and dull for one another.

"Baby we were born with fire and gold in our eyes."

EST + he/him

Jackson had a lot of faith in the system. He supposed it helped drive him to really get invested into his studies. He gave a smile and nodded, of course he could fill her in. He wasn't all that sure how she could help, or even if she could help him really but if she wanted to try, he would do the best to give her the information she needed to attempt to help. Nobody had every really helping him with his studies. His brothers were very busy people themselves but that didn't stop them from always rooting for each other and pushing each other to be the best they could be. Jackson was quite proud of all he had accomplished so far and was fairly glad he would now be able to have someone to support with those accomplishments.

He wasn't exactly sure if Isabelle had meant to fill her in now or at a later date but he assumed it was the latter as the conversation seemed to progress without much hesitation. Jackson listened intently to Isabelle talking about her job. Jackson raised his eyebrows as he was informed that on top of cutting hair, she also did other people's makeup. "I probably won't be all that helpful either but give me some time, I'll do my best to be of some assistance to you as well." he said with a chuckle. "I'll be sure to take up your offer though on the benefits," he said with a smile as he ran a hand through his hair, "Maybe one day I can return the favor.." he finished shaking his head a bit. He hoped it didn't sound all that insane to Isabelle as it did to Jackson but he hoped eventually he could be of some help or something.

Next on the table were hobbies.. He was pleasantly surprised at all the things Isabelle seemed interested in. She was interested in quite a few of the same things that he was interested in.. she was also interested in motorsports. Not only that, but she seemed possibly more keen on that than some of the previous things she mentioned. Jackson wasn't very invested in the motorsport department but he could appreciate Isabelle fondness of the sport. He was glad he didn't hate motorsports.. so at least now they could spend time watching them... or maybe even one day go to an actual race. "Oh uhh.." he fumbled out, slightly distracted thinking about things to do revolving around Isabelle's interests. "For starters, I'm a fairly avid reader as well.. I suppose I have my parents to thank for that. Movies are also always a great time, computers and how they function have become increasingly more interesting so I've found myself tinkering with them(mine) often." he said with s shrug as he attempted to think of more things. It was funny to him how despite knowing what he enjoyed, it seemed impossible to think of those things when suddenly presented with the question.

Or maybe he was just extremely boring he wasn't exactly sure now. The days didn't seem at that long to him.. he usually woke up somewhat early to get to class, and next thing he knew, he was getting ready for bed. The day's just kind of slipped by him but he didn't feel as though any part of the day was wasted.. None the less, he made a mental note to be more aware of what he frequently does during his days. Surely there was more that he enjoyed. "I guess that's mostly what my day's have consisted with." he said with a sheepish laugh. He was pretty much always learning about stuff and assumed it took more of a toll on him than he thought and he chalked that up as the reason most of his hobbies seemed to be laid back inside activities. He didn't dislike the outdoors though either.. until now he simply never really had much of a reason to spend his time outside. "Anyways though.. uhh.." Jackson said slowly in thought as he scrunched up his lips to one side of his face for a brief moment. He wasn't all that sure of where to proceed next. "Would you perhaps be interested in going for a walk now?"

It would be completely up to Jackson on if he ended up taking her help or not one day, she was unsure how she could help but least she had time to think of something. Until then though she talked about her job a little. She understood to some people it was probably boring or meaningless compared to other jobs, like his designated path for example but everyone needed their hair cut at some stage. She smiled nodding her head. "I wouldn't want you feeling like you owe me anything though..." she said quietly "Its normal right, to want to learn about one another and put the effort in to try help one another where possible?" Well she hoped that was normal, maybe it could be normal for them.

Naturally she could not resist talking about her hobbies only getting more excited as she recalled the things she liked. They might not be the most exciting things to people but she enjoyed them. Of course she also wanted to know what he liked silently hoping they had something in common, then they could bond. Though if it turned out they did not then she could live with that, meant they'd have to discover something they both enjoyed which was a slightly terrifying thought in her mind. But it turned out he was a reader also which eased her a little more. So one thing in common at least. She did not know much about computers but guess if something ever went wrong she had someone who had a keen interest in them. "So you're good with your hands then" she said making an observation. If he could tinker with computers she wondered what else he tinkered with or did he ever built anything.

He seemed to want to say something but did not seem sure on what so she sat quietly sipping on her drink until he figured it out. A walk seemed like a good idea, get out into the fresh air and it was such a nice day how could anyone pass it up really. She smiled and nodded her head "Sure..." she said as she stood up. What else could she ask him about himself though. What did she really want to know about him? She'd not really thought of it. "I'll admit I'm not very good with sort of, situation, so am maybe we can take it in turns asking one another questions?" she asked with a small shrug of her shoulders and slightly confused and worried expression all at once. She'd never had a date in her life let alone a meeting with a guy or a partner for that fact.

"I'll start... am..." she tapped her chin a few times as she headed to the door and thought, what would relax someone and not put them on the spot? She had no bloody idea. "Chocolate or Candy?" was what she ended up asking because it was the first thing to pop into her mind.

Jackson shrugged a bit as he nodded to Isabelle’s question in regards to the normalcy of being interested in one another’s work and wanting to help where they could. ”It was a fairly common thing in my family at least.” While his family might not have gotten too deep into each others work, they were still always there for support so he didn’t even really think twice about offering his support to Isabelle. It wasn’t really about repaying or anything like that for him, and hopefully with time he’d be able to show that better. Plus, maybe it would help with bonding or something along those lines.

Jackson would be all for exploring more free time activities with Isabelle. It wasn’t that he didn’t like doing anything else, he just never really found the need to find more things to do. Even if it might have been good to mix things up every once in a while. He smiled and shrugged as Isabelle commented on him being good with his hands. ”I suppose you could say that, though it sounds like you’re also pretty talented with them.” She had to be, right? She liked to draw, do hair, and makeup.. those were all activities that he felt like involved a lot of precise hand movements and you had to be good to do that kind of stuff for sure. Unfortunately he hadn’t really built anything himself but it was actually a goal of his.. though he was still trying to figure out what he wanted to build. Jackson gave a nod and proceeded to stand as Isabelle said she was up for leaving, he was mostly done with his own coffee anyways and the first aid should be nice.

He wasn’t all that sure as to where they should walk to but hopefully they would naturally end up somewhere. As they left the cafe, Jackson was sure to open the door for Isabelle on the way out. It had been a friendly tip from his father. He walked beside Isabelle as she spoke up about not exactly being the best at this kind of situation. ”It’s alright, me neither, taking turns sounds good to me.” he said with a friendly chuckle and smile. He’d never been all the great at holding conversations outside of ones with his immediate family anyways. Isabelle was fairly quick to pick up the first question. He thought about the question for a moment, probably more than one might have. It was a tough choice, there was only so many kinds of chocolate out there but they were all great.. ”Thats a tough one.. but I think definitely chocolate.” he said with a fairly reassuring nod.

”How about yourself?” Jackson hoped that didn’t really count as his own question. He simply wanted to know the answer for her own question. ”That didn’t count though..” He’d say quickly after she had answered her own question. Since the starting topic seemed to be good related, Jackson figured he’d stay in that area for now. ”What is your favourite food or foods?” he asked curiously.

Sometimes you have to break the rules to do the right thing.

His family sounded rather supporting of one another, it sounded homey really. For a brief moment she had to wonder when she would get to meet them. Oh shit, she'd have to meet them at some stage, wow that was a whole different pressure right there! One mind you she elected to push aside and focus on their conversations before they opted to leave.

Having not expected him to having opened the door for her she was stumped for a moment before smiling and thanking him. Was that a normal thing for guys to do? Was she supposed to have done it instead? She'd keep that in mind for next time. Putting an idea across they ask one question each at a time to get to know one another she kicked off. Maybe this way if they found a more common ground they'd find themselves deeper in conversation, she was not sure. Suppose she also wanted to try just keep the air light.

So he was a chocolate fan. She made a mental note of that before it was turned on her. Hmm let's see which did she prefer? She enjoyed both but she guessed she leaned towards one more than the other. "I have to admit I do enjoy chocolate myself. I also don't mind something sweeter from time to time" she stated. You could do a lot more with chocolate like making a cake with it or putting it in popcorn or drinking it. You couldn't really do that with candy.

As she started to think of another question he was quick to point out that, his did not count causing her to laugh and nod her head. "Alright then". She waited for his question which was in the same subject and she had to admit she had to think again. She was not much of a fussy eater really. Sure there were things she did not like, like beans but her favorite food/s was another matter. "Am... well I enjoy mango's. Though meal wise I guess I'm a big Italian fan" really did anyone hate pizza and pasta and fresh garlic bread?

"What is your most despised thing to eat?" She questioned him, this way she'd know what not to make because the last thing anyone wanted was to have been busting their ass in the kitchen for someone to say they hated that.

Nice! They were both fans of chocolate, though Isabelle did seem to also enjoy candy from time to time. Duly noted. Jackson would be sure to mix things up every once in a while, keep things fresh. He wondered what kind of candy she liked but figured he could find something sweeter, and if she didn’t like it he’d just eat it himself. Seemed like a pretty good win-win situation. Moving on to bigger and better things though, Jackson walked relatively calmly alongside Isabelle. In his usual confident manner, Jackson did his best to stay along side her and not get too far ahead or behind. If you wanted the part, you had to act the part.

Jackson nodded his head slowly in thought taking notes for later as he glanced between Isabelle and in front of the two. He was trying hard to stay somewhat focused on his path so he wouldn't run into anything and look too ridiculous, while taking mental notes because it would probably be weird for him to just whip out a notepad... maybe later though he could write it down so he wouldn't forget. He chuckled at the Italian food bit, "Aha I see, who doesn't love some Italian? Mangoes though huh..? I can approve of that." he said with a smile and a happy nod. Mangoes were definitely pretty good. He was glad that it was a food that he didn't find terrible.. that would have been very unfortunate. "As far as my most despised food to eat.. would probably have to be tomatoes." he said with with a sheepish shrug. Jackson would definitely eat anything, or at least give it a try but there were plenty of things he didn't fancy eating all that much. He figured that he would spare the long thought process and just pick his least favorite.

Now it was turn for his question..what should he ask next? Or to properly phrase it.. what was important to ask.. especially on like.. a first date..? That's technically what it was.. right? Even though they were already set to be married. What even made a date a date? Would this count as just hanging out? Jackson's face grew warm as he quickly pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind. It would be quite troublesome to go down that rabbit hole at this point in time, maybe later he could go over it.

"Now that we've got favorite and least favorite things to eat checked off.. uhm, I saw that you had quite a few siblings!" he said with a chuckle as he reflected on his own plethora of brothers, "Are you very close with any of them?"
